I have three primary hobbies; Woodworking, Engineering, and Writing. I also dance around within mediums. BTW, I really like computer renderings, I get envious every time I see a cool render, but then I remind myself that I already have too much to do to invest the time into it. Thing is, I don't "see" the flaws that you are talking about. As a technician, you have trained yourself to look for flaws (ahem, Editor), but most people won't see them. Mary Sue and Uncle Bob may REALLY like my short-stories, but you read it as a trite, convoluted mess. THAT is why it's been important for me to learn the processes of writing, so I could be my own "technician."

I suffer from the same problem: too many interests and not enough time. At some point you have to choose, which is painful. Yeah, seeing your own flaws in your writing is hard. Which is why I recommend joining a critique group, if you can. We often can't see our own blind spots.

By the way, your 3D renders are fantastic.

My main job is in a hospital but art, (painting and drawing)has been a huge part of my life. Writing was something I did a lot of as a child but other interests took over. Life and small children was part of it, but that didn’t stop me from getting my Art degree. (It took 7 years part time)

All along ideas for stories kept popping into my head and I would write them down but never had time to do anything with them. I think also that confidence had a lot to do with that as well.

I am a huge Alan Moore fan and he put out a BBC Maestro writing course. He is very encouraging and it gave me the confidence to give it a go. I loved it and it’s been almost two years. I haven’t stopped yet. I am still learning. The process of building worlds, plot twists, coming up with new story lines is the best thing ever. It’s a completely different process to painting/ drawing but building it up from a sketch to the finished piece is similar from writing the draft to the finished story. In that way there are parallels.

I *loved* the Alan Moore BBC Maestro course so much that I'm thinking about watching it again. I don't think we ever stop learning.
